Welcome to the Electron Microscopy Section

The facilities electron microcopy section focus is on transmission electron microscopy (TEM), housing a Hitachi H7100 TEM fitted with a 16 megapixel camera capable of high resolution imaging. A dedicated electron microscopy (EM) specimen preparation laboratory allows for the processing of both sensitive biological samples and small particles (nanomaterials).

The EM section of the facility is open to all St George's University staff, students and researchers as well as other academic institutions and provides a high standard of support service to the St. George’s NHS Trust.

TEM specimen preparation resource equipment include:

  • Routine processing and resin embedding of biological specimens
  • Semi-thin and Ultra-thin sectioning
  • Post staining techniques
  • TEM analysis and image aquisition
  • Negative staining and Methylcellulose/Uranyl Acetate embedding
