Biography:

Microscopy research has been a prominent fundamental element and core personal interest in my professional undertaking to become a specialist within the expert field of bio-imaging.

In 2012, after a twelve year career as an accomplished underwater photographer, I completed a BSc (Hons) Marine Biology degree gaining skills and expertise in biological applications in electron microscopy.

As Manager of the Image Resource Facility I am responsible for the overall operation of the electron microscopy, light microscopy and histology sample preparation sections. I also provide training and guidance in transmission electron microscopy (TEM). As your first point of contact I am happy to help you with the requirements for your project and techniques you feel may benefit your project.

Biography:

My background features a broad education in bioscience, including a BSc in Biochemistry and an MSc in Bioscience Technology. Functional comparison of Confocal and SPIM (“Light Sheet”) imaging - with zebrafish development as a subject matter - were the main focus of my MSc research project, and provide the background upon which I have built my microscopy skills and knowledge. Having experienced a variety of biology research fields throughout my studies, I enjoy fitting microscopy applications to requirements in research.

Within my role as Light Microscopy Technician I ensure the quality and reliability of our Light Microscopy Suite, and provide training to all users on our Light Microscopy platforms. I have a wide variety of interests in biology and biomedical sciences, and will endeavour to tailor our services to your research.

Biography:

I am a cell biologist with a background in cell migration. Through my scientific career I have developed a great interest in microscopy techniques.

In November 2009, after my postdoctoral training – that included time at EMBL-Heidelberg, LRI-CRUK, Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and King’s College London – I joined St George’s as a Principal Investigator. My lab uses mainly microscopy techniques to investigate the biology of Prostate Cancer with special emphasis in the role of cell migration in this process.

Since October 2012, I am also the Academic Director of the Image Resource Facility (IRF). Here, we aim to coordinate all the current Imaging Resources – including Scanning and Transmission Electron Microscopy, Light, Epifluorescence and Confocal Microscopy (with live imaging capabilities), and sample preparative equipment – to offer a service to the St George’s research community, NHS-Trust and other external users. Thus, if you feel your project could benefit of a specific microscopy technique, we would be very pleased to hear about it and see how we could help!
